Drawing flowers in my Field Notes

Pennsylvania is full of beautiful blooms during spring and early summer. I would take many pictures in the gardens or my backyard. Not simply because I appreciate the beauty of the flowers but because I keep them as my reference photos when I draw.

Since I started collecting and using Field Notes a couple of months ago, I have wanted to do more drawings or sketches in my notebooks. Unfortunately, they don't release many blank/plain notebooks. Even when they did, the paper may not be as thick as some sketchbook you are familiar with. They are perfect if you sketch using Blackwing pencils, but if you are using ink pens, you may not be able to draw on both sides of the page. If you love using colors, the Field Notes take colored pencils quite well, and it is a pleasant experience to draw with fun colors.

These are the floral drawings I did in the morning while I was waking up and drinking my coffee. I drew these using Muji gel pens, using the reference photos I took. I love this morning ritual because it helps me get my head into the right space. It feels great to start my day with a little warm-up drawing.
