Accessories I bought for my Fujifilm X100V
In September, I decided to give myself a good reason to splurge on a Fujifilm X100V after stuck at home for 6 months. Once I rekindled my shopping spirit, it has been challenging to slow down. The black Fujifilm X100V I bought was absolutely stunning out of the box! Naturally, the next step was to accessorize it with stuff that may or may not be necessary. Here are what I have bought for my X100V.
The first thing on the list is the battery. I didn't go for the original battery from Fujifilm. I have always bought my backup batteries on Amazon, and they never caused any issues with my cameras. This FirstPower battery set comes with a charger, and it has 2 batteries in the box. I am a slow shooter, and my cameras rarely run out of juice; somehow, I bought 4 backup batteries for my X100V; I guess it must be some compulsion in me.
Next, I need to protect the camera screen. I found this Afunta anti-scratch tempered glass protective film. There are many videos on YouTube to teach you how to put a protective screen on properly. With those video tutorials, I could get the protective layer on without any ugly air bubbles trapped in between.
For the case, I ordered a leather one from ETSY. The store was in Hong Kong, and it took forever to ship, so I decided to get a cheap temporary one from Amazon. This PU leather case turned out better than I expected. I would totally use this if I hadn't ordered the one from Hong Kong. The worst thing is, I found the same case I bought from ETSY on eBay, and it was half-price on eBay. Lesson learned, not everything on ETSY is handmade and premium.
To carry it around, I saw this cotton wrist strap. Although the price is very affordable, the quality was exceptional! I love how it feels, and it doesn't get in the way when I went out and shoot.
As you all know, the Fujifilm X100V is the first in the series and capable of being weather sealed if you add a filter on it. After looking through millions of listings, I decided to go with the NiSi UV filter. Surely, the square hood would make the camera looks more like a Leica and adding protection, but from all the reviews I read, it could be a pain to take it on and off. This NiSi is easy to use, fits perfectly, and can still use the original Fujifilm lens cap. Although it doesn't have the benefit of a lens hood, I don't find it problematic. X100V doesn't seem to produce weird lens flare even without a hood.
For a soft release button, I like the ones from JJC. They come with multiple color combinations depending on how you like to style your camera. I don't find a soft release button necessary or useful, but it could be fun to dress up your X100V!
I found many Fujifilm X100V users shoot with this Tiffen Black Pro-Mist filter from watching reviews on YouTube. They said it adds a filmic look to your images that I can't confirm, but I like how the highlight glows softly with the filter. To use the filter, you do need a filter adapter. This Haoge filter adapter ring is great because the black matches my X100V perfectly!
Although I am interested in purchasing a thumb grip, I haven't been able to nail down my decision. Here are some of my considerations. If you have used any of these on your X100V, please let me know which one is your favorite.
