Baggu Duck Bag Review | A lightweight washable canvas tote
Let's face it, it is nice to have luxurious leather bags, but sometimes leather bags could be too delicate. In general, unless you have a Safiano leather bag or a Longchamp bag with treated leather, leather bags are not as forgiving for damage and stains. I wouldn't be so confident that my leather bags could survive if I took them to a farmers' market, to the beach, or to visit my friends, knowing their dogs would jump on me. For these reasons, I decided to get a Baggu Duck Bag because it is a washable canvas bag that doesn't break my wallet. I also wanted to have a bag that I can use to carry wet groceries if I have to. The bag is extremely lightweight and can be folded up to put in your luggage when you travel.
There are many great things to talk about with the Baggu Duck Bag. First of all, it is made with a 16 oz recycled cotton canvas. I love buying anything made with recycled material so as to not feel guilty being a shopping addict. The fabric is soft but not flimsy. The proper thickness of canvas makes the bag feel sturdy and durable but not heavy. Baggu doesn't specify the hardware material, but I guess the buttons and buckles are not real metal as they are pretty light in weight.
On Baggu's website, it stated the Duck Bag fits a 15" Macbook, but since it doesn't have a laptop compartment, I wouldn't use it to carry my iPad or laptop since the bag is not padded. I imagined it would be uncomfortable to have a laptop banging on your body when you wear it crossbody or on your shoulder. However, the bag has a zippered pocket inside to keep your keys, purse, or phone. The zipper zips smoother than the Baggu suede tote I previously reviewed, but it is not a YKK zipper like some other high-end bags.
The crossbody strap is adjustable, so you could make it shorter to carry it on your shoulder or use it as a crossbody tote when adjusting the strap to a longer length. If you decided not to use the long shoulder strap, you could fold it into the bag and carry it with the short handles. Interestingly, the bag has button closures on multiple spots. Once you tuck in the shoulder strap, you can button them all up, and the opening of the bag becomes much smaller. With this setup, you don't have to worry about your stuff rolling out if you lay it on its side. It is also a security feature as it is hard for strangers to reach inside your bag. Another noticeable mention is how they handle the seams. The seams inside the bag are covered and protected with webbing. You won't have to worry about the seams fraying after a few washes.
I highly recommend Baggu Duck Bag if you plan to add a canvas bag to your collection. You could find many color options, patterns, and prints to match your style on their website. It is a roomy casual bag that's more than capable of carrying your groceries and looks excellent when you are out to have a coffee with friends!
